Entry Level Positions in the Drilling Industry
Program length: | 15 Weeks Full-Time training |
This course covers the following:
- 15 weeks of full-time training
- Provides a complete process of employment preparation
- Technical, safety and on-the-job training provided in conjunction with ENFORM
- Find employment as a floorhand in the Drilling Industry
Program Outline
- Upgrading - General & Technical English, Math, Work & Life Management, Occupational Heath & Safety (10 weeks)
- Occupational Training at ENFORM (2 weeks)
- Hands-on Work Experience at Enform Nisku Training Centre (1 week)
- Employment Support (2 weeks)
Communication, workplace integration and employment preparation
- Occupational English & communication
- Life & work management skills
- Occupational health & safety
- General employment preparation
ENFORM Technical and Safety Training in Calgary
- Introduction to the Petroleum Industry in Canada
- Environmental land management
- H2S Alive, Standard First Aid, WHMIS, TDG, PST / CSTS
- Light Duty Vehicles & Air Brake Endorsement
ENFORM Technical Hands-on Training in Nisku
Work experience on a drilling rig:
- Systems & components of the drilling rig
- Floor-hand duties & spinning chain
- Safe use of hand tools
- Efficient handling of tongs
- Proper equipment handling
- Teamwork
Selection Process
Potential candidates are assessed based on program eligibility criteria plus:
- Credentials, background & experience
- Language and communication assessment
- One-on-one interview with program staff
- Interview with industry HR personnel
- Suitability for the nature of the occupation
- Interest in the drilling industry and commitment to the program

Client Eligibility
- Landed immigrant or new Canadian legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be unemployed/underemployed
- Must hold a valid Class 5 Alberta drivers license and own reliable transportation
- Currently receiving Employment Insurance (EI) or received EI in the last three years, or currently receiving Income Support
- Limited spots for those receiving no funding
- Excellent communication skills required
- English at a Canadian Language Benchmark of five and greater
- Interested in employment in the drilling industry with a strong commitment to the program and employment
- Willing to undergo alcohol and drug testing with potential employers
- Physically strong and capable of working in the industry
- Pass a medical exam
- Willing to work in camps or travel within the vicinity of drilling activity
- Willing to relocate and/or work shifts and extended hours in all weather conditions
